Mission Statement Mormons and Prop 8 Mormons and Gays Sundance Festival Who to Contact Move the Fesival to where? Public Votes on Civil Rights Things You Can do to Help

We certainly understand that in order to maintain the flavor, feel, and spirit of the Sundance Film Festival it needs to be kept in an upscale town in a “Mountain-West” state, with both great skiing and a great “winter vibe.”

Unfortunately, every state in that area of the country has written hate and bigotry into its books by enacting a statute or constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage….EXCEPT ONE.

Not only is New Mexico one of only six states in the country (and the ONLY one outside of the Northeast) that has never written discrimination and homophobia into its state marriage laws; but (although this gets legally complicated), they MAY also recognize same-sex marriages performed in Massachusetts and Connecticut!

(Incidentally – Utah was one of the FIRST states to pass a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage, and they offer no civil-unions or domestic-partnerships)

Our vote for the new home for the Sundance Film Festival.….Taos, New Mexico! Taos has world-class skiing, first-rate resorts and restaurants, and, one would imagine, plenty of nearby movie theaters. In addition, there has always been a close relationship between New Mexico and the film community. It may be the MOST “film friendly” state in the country, offering many perks, incentives, and tax breaks for filmmakers.

Please CONTACT THE NEW MEXICO FILM OFFICE. Tell them it’s time for the Sundance Film Festival to find a new home, and POLITELY ask them if they can assist Taos, New Mexico in getting ready to host it by the middle of January.
